The Kwara State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspects linked to the alleged murder of 21-year-old Mojisola Awesu, a recent graduate of the Kwara State College of Health Technology. The state’s Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, made this disclosure during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin on Friday.
According to the police, Mojisola was lured to Ilorin by Adebayo Happiness, a dismissed student of Summit University, Offa, who invited her to act as his girlfriend at a party in exchange for a fee of N15,000. Tragically, she was allegedly murdered at a hotel where she had been lodged on Friday, August 9, 2024.
The Commissioner of Police stated that those arrested include the prime suspect, Adebayo Happiness, his parents, Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi and Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi, Miss Kolawola Timileyin, who connected the deceased to the prime suspect, and three employees of the hotel where the crime occurred.
Olaiya revealed that Adebayo Happiness' parents were apprehended after they attempted to tamper with evidence by retrieving their son’s belongings from his school. It was discovered that Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi had removed the SIM card from Mojisola’s iPhone and hidden it within a wall near their residence, contrary to earlier claims by Adebayo that he had disposed of the phone in the Afelele River, Offa. Both the iPhone and the SIM card were later recovered from his parents’ possession.

Further investigations revealed that hotel staff found Mojisola’s body in the room and illegally dumped it at a refuse site in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The Commissioner of Police assured that all suspects would be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation and will face the full weight of the law. “We assure the public that the Kwara State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace and security within the community,” Olaiya stated, promising further updates as the investigation continues.
