Nigerian women in PR to launch scholarship funds
02/11/2023 06:40 in News Update

The Nigerian Women in Public Relations (NGWIPR) has expressed its interest to launch scholarship funds, which would focus on inspiring female researchers to study Public Relations.

Founder of NGWIPR, Tolulope Olorundero, stated this while speaking during a recent stakeholders’ meeting of the group where its upcoming ‘Experiencing PR’ conference scheduled to hold in March was announced.

She noted that the scholarship fund would help sponsor research in the profession, which would serve as reference point for the academia and anyone willing to understand PR from Nigeria’s perspective.

Speaking about the conference themed, ‘Beyond Crisis: PR for Perception Management in Business and Public Affairs’, Olorundero said it would feature panel sessions with experts including former Director General, Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Yemi Kale and Chief Marketing Officer, MTN, Adia Sowho.

She explained that PR goes beyond crisis management and media, and includes perception, reputation management, community relations and other aspects that have not been fully explored.

She stated that the conference would be targeted towards multi-level stakeholder education and advocacy for the public relations profession. Explaining that in a complex society like ours, PR helps to reach decisions and function more effectively by contributing to mutual understanding among groups and institutions.

She urged that as Nigeria transitions into a new government in May 2023, it is increasingly obvious that the economy needs drastic intervention and citizens also need a mindset reorientation in addition to a deliberate perception shift, that experiencing PR aims to fill that knowledge gap in understanding the value of PR and positioning professionals to take the stage which has been set before them.
