Paris is grappling with a bed bug infestation, just 10 months ahead of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. The issue began in hotels and rental apartments over the summer, but bed bugs have now been spotted in movie theaters, high-speed trains, and the Paris Metro. Passengers have shared videos on social media, causing alarm. Parisian pest control companies are overwhelmed, with treatment costs at around $500 per home. Bedbugs are small, almost the size of an apple seed, about 4-5 millimeters in length, reddish-brown insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are nocturnal pests, expert hiders, known for their ability to hide in cracks and crevices such as mattresses, box springs, bed frames, cracks in walls and furniture, electrical outlets, and even in luggage or clothing during the day and emerge at night to feed.
