World number one Novak Djokovic strolled past Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3 6-1 6-0 on Monday to advance to the second round of the French Open.

It was an easy day for the defending champion as he looks to get grab a record-equaling 21st Grand Slam title. Djokovic looked in control throughout the match especially in the final two sets as he dropped only one game in those sets.

Nishioka his opponent, currently 99 on the ATP rankings deployed a risky tactic of playing tight angles from the start. This seemed futile as Djokovic went 4-2 up and closed out the set masterfully.

Across the courts, Rafael Nadal showed his typical dominance on clay as he claimed a 6-2 6-2 6-2 victory over Jordan Thompson. Playing on chilly court Phillipe Chatrier, Nadal showed no signs of injuries as he powered through his Australian opponent.

The Spaniard arrived in Paris with a rib problem and a chronic foot problem disrupting his preparations and looked in peak shape as he wasn’t fazed by the efforts of Thompson.

In the women’s category, U.S. Open champion Emma Raducanu had to go through a gruesome match against Linda Noskova to win 6-7(4) 7-5 6-1. Noskova, a teenager like Raducanu.
