07/04/2022 08:07 in News Update

According to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, it stated that there might not be an end to the scarcity of fuel in Nigeria in coming years.

Reports from the union stated that Nigeria might begin to face the consequences of forgoing the importation of petroleum from local refining, even with the fact of being well known to be the giant of Africa when it comes to oil production.

Prince William Akporeha, who is the current president of NUPENG, during the weekend at Ibadan, Oyo,who was present  at 5th,(QDC) Quadrennial Delegates Conference, of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, blamed the Niger Delta governors for also contributing to the fact that ,they didn't invest in locally refining of oil, rather they focused more on the airline, with the fact that they had access to crude oil.

He lamented bitterly as regards the regular scarcity in fuel that happens in the country, one of the reasons he gave included that the government paid more attention to importation of oil, neglecting the local refining. With this he said there don't seem to be a lasting solution to the fuel scarcity in Nigeria

Akporeha said: “As tanker drivers, our job is to distribute petroleum products whenever available to every nook and cranny across the country. We can only distribute these products when they are available and we are always ready and will continue to do so.

‘’But if the products are not available, there is nothing we can do. We find it unacceptable whenever we are blamed for scarcity of the products across the country. We hate the buck passing by those concerned, who failed to make the products available.

The outgoing  National chairman of PTD,Otunba Salimon Oladiti, praised the  NUPENG national leaders as well as their members for the maximum support given to him during the eight years he spent during his tenure.

As he dished out 12-key achievements,Otunba Salimon Oladiti expressed how happy he was has there was really an improvement in the training organized for the tanker drivers done with the collaborative efforts of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in Warri,Lagos,Kaduna, and Port Harcourt.

He said: “My concerns and worries for the safety of lives of tanker drivers dated back to my younger days as a tanker driver. As soon as I assumed office during my first tenure in 2014, I introduced a policy that will inculcate discipline among our members, especially in the area of night traveling.
