Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has signed two bills for the establishment of Yobe State Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (YEMAS) and Health Facility Inspection and Monitoring Agency (HFIMA) to deliver healthcare to the doorsteps of residents.
The health agencies are also to inspect and monitor the delivery of healthcare services in the 178 wards across the state. Assenting the bills, yesterday, in Damaturu, the governor disclosed: “The laws are to boost healthcare delivery to our people and victims of road accidents.” He added that the two agencies were to “provide and monitor” healthcare facilities based on global best practices.
According to him, YEMAS will provide victims of road accidents opportunity for first aid treatment before they are evacuated to hospitals for treatment. He added that HFIMA empowers health authorities to inspect and monitor services provided by the health workers.
He said,“This will prevent the rendering of substandard healthcare services to the people due to corner-cutting in healthcare delivery.”
