A devastating Cyclone hit Myanmar's Rakhine state, which has claimed over 400 lives and caused severe damage. The UN relief coordinator in Myanmar, Ramanathan Balakrishnan, said, "It is really a nightmare scenario".
According to Balakrishnan, the cyclone struck the poorest parts of the country which had already been affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, domestic conflict, and economic problems. Although The National Unity Government warned people about the cyclone in advance, a lot of lives and property were still destroyed. The government has worked to organize international aid for the victims.
The damage however, is gradually becoming clear due to widespread cuts to communication lines. Many were even said to have drowned or were hit by the falling trees. Many are homeless as it stands and are now living where the National Unity Government provided.
