Aliko Dangote commissions Africa's largest oil refinery

The once-a-small sugar trader and Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote commissions his multi-billion dollar project; Dangote oil Refinery which is reputed to be Africa's biggest oil refinery and the world's biggest single-train facility.

The Oil Refinery located at the Dangote Industries Free Trade Zone Area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos is expected to produce 650,000 barrels per day (BPD).  It includes a 435-megawatt power station, deep seaport, and fertilizer unit.

The refinery aims to fulfil the entire demand for refined products within Nigeria and generate a surplus for export. It is equipped to process Nigerian crude oil and can handle other types of crude oil as well.

Among the products the refinery is said to be able to produce include high-quality gas lines, diesel, jet fuel, and polypropylene, meeting Euro-V standards. 

The management of the Dangote refinery assures compliance with emission and effluent norms set by the World Bank, US EPA, European standards, and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). 

Present at the commissioning of the project were the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, along with other African Presidents from Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Niger, and Chad alongside other stakeholders.
