In a heart-wrenching incident on the Eko Bridge heading towards Alaka in Surulere, Lagos, a multiple-vehicle accident has resulted in two confirmed fatalities and left five others injured. The collision involved six vehicles, including a heavily loaded truck, a Lexus Jeep, a Toyota Camry, and a Toyota Mini-bus.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), a collaborative effort between the authority and other emergency response teams swiftly mobilized for an urgent operation at the accident site. The rescue team, led by LASTMA officer Akinde Olusola, sadly reported that the victims of the accident were a male and a female.
Initial findings from the investigation indicate that the tragic incident unfolded as a fully loaded 'MAC' truck, operating at high speed, collided with five other vehicles, including a commercial mini bus known as a 'Korope.' The collision is believed to have been triggered by a failure in the truck's braking system.
Adebayo further disclosed that the victims, comprising a male and a female, were promptly transported to a nearby General Hospital. The ambulances used for transportation were provided by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Lagos Response Unit (LRU).
