Thirty-eight inmates from the Inmates Continuing Education Centre at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kurmawa, Kano, have successfully completed the 2023 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination and graduated from the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies examination.

During the graduation ceremony, Suleiman Inuwa, the Controller of Corrections at the Kano Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, expressed appreciation for the Service's efforts in preparing the inmates for a better future. He emphasized that the Service's reformatory program aims to transform and empower inmates, enabling them to contribute positively to society upon their release.

Mr. Inuwa highlighted the transformation of the Nigerian Correctional Service, which now provides inmates with educational opportunities, setting it apart from the previous Nigerian Prisons Service.

He encouraged the graduates to capitalize on the education they received and work towards becoming exemplary citizens. He also urged them to consider pursuing further education, even up to the university level, within the custodial center.

Haruna Doguwa, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting education. He pledged to cover the examination fees for the inmates, reinforcing the importance of education in rehabilitation and reintegration efforts.
