An individual associated with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been taken into custody after being found in possession of 4 kilograms of an illicit substance identified as Marsh-Mallow. The arrest took place on the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway in Lagos.
Allegedly, the individual admitted to planning to sell the substance. Reports suggest that a police team led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Sunday, who was conducting a routine patrol on August 12, 2023, made the arrest.
Acting on a hunch, the police officers reportedly asked to inspect the suspect's bag. Upon searching, they uncovered the illicit drugs, leading to the suspect's apprehension.
According to police sources, the suspect, identified as Kelechi, 50, and hailing from Abia State, is affiliated with the NDLEA office at First Gate, Tin Can Island, Lagos. He allegedly confessed during questioning that he had received the four kilograms of Marsh-Mallow from his superior, whom he named as Odogwu, with the intention of selling it.
Sources indicate that the alleged superior mentioned by the suspect will be summoned to address the accusation as part of the ongoing investigation. Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hudenyin confirmed the arrest when reached for comment.
