Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has called for the backing and collaboration of paramilitary agencies falling under his ministry's jurisdiction. These agencies encompass the Nigeria Correctional Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Following his recent swearing-in on Monday as part of President Bola Tinubu's appointments, Tunji-Ojo held an inaugural meeting with the agencies. In a statement released on Tuesday by the minister's media aide, Mr. Babatunde Alao, the minister emphasized the need for synergy among the paramilitary service chiefs and urged them to be proactive within their respective agencies.
He conveyed a stern message, cautioning that he would hold the agency heads accountable for any shortcomings in their duties, mirroring the way President Tinubu would hold him responsible for ministry-related matters. He stated that Just as Mr. President will hold him accountable for whatever happens in the Ministry of Interior, he will never hold their subordinates responsible for anything but that he will hold them responsible for anything that goes wrong.
Tunji-Ojo reiterated his dedication to fulfilling his constitutional obligations within the ministry and pledged to strive for meeting the ministry's anticipated targets and objectives. He also highlighted the importance of a positive working environment and expressed his intention to lead by example, emphasizing a commitment to effecting change and delivering tangible outcomes.
Dr. Oluwatoyi Akinlade, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, affirmed the support and cooperation of the ministry's staff members towards the minister's endeavors.
Attending the meeting were prominent heads of the paramilitary entities, including Mr. Haliru Nababa, the Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service; Mrs. Adepoju Carol Wura-Ola, the Acting Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service; Mr. Abdulganiyu Jaji, the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service; and Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
