In response to the recent construction of flyovers and an underpass bridge in Yola metropolis, the Adamawa State Government has announced its intention to carry out a sensitization campaign regarding road traffic regulations.
Mr. Mohammed Suleiman, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Works, shared this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Yola.
The campaign is expected to span two to three weeks, after which the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) will implement enforcement measures.
Suleiman highlighted that the motivation behind the sensitization initiative is the observed violation of traffic rules by road users around the newly constructed flyovers and underpass bridge, resulting in frequent accidents. To counter this, additional road signs and speed breakers will be introduced following the campaign, aiming to prevent road crashes.
Suleiman stated that the violation of traffic rules is among the challenges they are facing. they will conduct a two to three weeks awareness campaign, after which the FRSC and VIOs will initiate full enforcement. He emphasized that individuals disregarding the rules post-sensitization will be apprehended by traffic management agencies.
Suleiman also mentioned plans to block certain U-turns to alleviate traffic congestion, as some motorists have been exploiting the opportunity to use one-way routes rather than utilizing designated U-turns. Furthermore, he assured the completion of the pedestrian bridge on the Total flyover to facilitate safer crossing, especially for Capital School pupils, while urging residents of the state to remain patient during these developments.
