Call to Action: Government Urged to Offer Increased Incentives for Young Farmers in Agribusiness
08/31/2023 18:45 in News Update

The call has been made for the Federal Government, led by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Abubakar Kyari, to enhance incentives for young farmers and establish a favorable environment for their success in agribusiness.

The appeal came from Omoyele Omonira, the Chief Operating Officer of Ultiads Resource, during the official launch of the "Farmlinkup" platform in Ibadan, Oyo State. Omoyele, an agro-economist from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, advised the new Minister to prioritize involving young people in his programs, emphasizing the importance of not leaving agriculture solely to the elderly generation.

He recommended the provision of soft loans and a conducive atmosphere for young farmers, suggesting that such support would promote legitimate earnings and create employment opportunities.

Omoyele explained that the Farmlinkup platform functions as a marketplace where farmers can showcase their produce and services globally, with the aim of linking producers and consumers directly. The platform was designed to bring farmers and consumers together, promoting transparency, accessibility, and reduced logistic challenges.

Omoyele noted the necessity of integrating agriculture into the digital system to enhance efficiency, safety, and access to markets. He also invited logistics service providers to join the platform, aiming to break market monopolies and grant young individuals greater market access.

Measures have been implemented to ensure product quality, including a customer complaint section to gather feedback and maintain standards.
