Residents of Umuezeala Owerre in Ehime Mbano Council area of Imo State are relocating due to fear of further attacks after unidentified gunmen killed about eight security officers and burned their vehicles.
Stakeholders in the area, who spoke anonymously, cited concerns of potential clashes between security forces and the gunmen. They expressed shock that the attackers had a camp in their community, and fear has gripped the town since the incident.
People are moving about in fear, and some are suspending their activities, including farming, due to the situation. Some residents have urged the government to subsidize tuition fees and initiate an education loan scheme to help students.
Others have advised parents to cut down on expenses and send their children to schools they can afford to avoid unnecessary debts.
