09/22/2023 07:01 in News Update

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has postponed its 293rd Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting initially scheduled for September 25 and 26, 2023.

Dr. Isa AbdulMumin, the Director of Corporate Communications at CBN, announced this in a statement and mentioned that a new date would be communicated later.

This marks a rare instance of indefinite postponement for the central bank's regular policy meeting. The statement expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the change.

Additionally, CBN announced its plans to hold the 2nd edition of the International Financial Inclusion Conference (IFIC) on October 5th and 6th, 2023. The conference's theme is "Financial Inclusion for All: Global Insights for Local Impact."

The event will serve as a platform for global thought leaders, regulators, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing financial inclusion, both in Africa and worldwide.

Distinguished keynote speakers include Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia; Dr. Alfred Hannig, Executive Director of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion; and Dr. Reza Baqir, former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan.

Various topics will be explored, such as fintech-driven solutions, big data and artificial intelligence, non-interest finance, payment systems for marginalized segments, consumer protection, fraud prevention, and data privacy, among others.
