01/26/2024 14:52 in News Update

In a recent announcement from the Ogun State Ministry of Environment, a decisive move has been made to address concerns and uplift the pest control industry in the region. A strategic partnership with the Professional Environmental and Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) has been established, signaling a renewed commitment to professionalism and industry excellence.

Responding to the feedback, comments, and advice from stakeholders, the Ministry of Environment in Ogun State is actively addressing challenges faced by pest control service providers. Steps are being taken to ensure the prosperity of this vital industry within the state.

To combat issues like low patronage and neglect of fumigation responsibilities by companies, the Ministry plans to make a public announcement through various media channels. This initiative aims to mandate regular fumigation of domestic, commercial, and industrial premises in alignment with public health laws and the National Environmental Standard (2016). Additionally, routine inspections will be intensified to enforce compliance with mandatory fumigation guidelines.

Recognized as the professional body for pest controllers, PECAN's core objective is to train and certify pest control service providers. This collaboration is poised to set a benchmark for distinguishing experts from substandard practitioners, fostering a culture of excellence within the industry.

As part of the collaboration, PECAN will conduct two training sessions per year, with the inaugural session scheduled for the 29th of February, 2024. These training programs are designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of pest control service providers, aligning practices with global standards.
