The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) have initiated a nationwide strike today, Monday, citing alleged unfair salary treatment and disparities by the Federal Government.
Last Monday, the unions issued a threat to disrupt hostel operations and power supply in universities nationwide unless their demands are met by March 18, 2024.
SSANU's National President, Muhammed Ibrahim, stated that members, including Vice Chancellors, registrars, and bursars, have yet to receive arrears since 2022. Ibrahim confirmed that both unions were prepared for their nationwide strike.
As of today (Monday), services have been withdrawn by all workers in registry, bursary, works and maintenance, security, and students’ affairs departments. This action has resulted in the halt of administrative activities across all public universities in Nigeria, and it will persist for the next seven days unless necessary actions are taken.
