Six people lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a truck and a Toyota Sienna at Verony, Ogere, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson in Ogun State, Mrs. Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday.
The accident, which occurred at 7:40 a.m., involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE 692 EL. The truck involved in the collision could not be identified as it did not stop after the crash. According to Okpe, the crash was caused by excessive speed on the part of the Sienna driver, who rammed into the rear of the truck.
Out of the nine passengers in the Sienna, six—comprising two men and four women—were confirmed dead, while the remaining three sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Akinwumi Fasakin, described the crash as an avoidable tragedy, emphasizing the need for motorists to exercise maximum caution while driving. He urged all road users to adhere strictly to road safety rules and regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
