Former Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the National President of the union. Akinsanya, who was the sole candidate, was chosen during an election held Saturday at the union’s Zonal Secretariat along Osogbo/Ikirun Road.
Delegates from four southwestern states—Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti—participated in the election, which formed part of the union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference. Acting National President Aliyu Issa-Ore, who was represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, oversaw the process. Issa-Ore explained that the union’s constitution allowed each zone to select a preferred candidate for the national presidency, which the Southwest zone fulfilled by electing Akinsanya.
The conference also elected Tajudeen Agbede as Vice President for the Southwest and Akeem Adeosun as the zone’s Trustee.
After being sworn in, Akinsanya addressed union members, emphasizing peace and unity. “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well,” he stated. “This is our union, and we must be committed to preserving it. We will not allow anyone to destroy our means of livelihood.”
Akinsanya's supporters and family members were present at the event, showing support as he took the oath of office and assumed his new role.
