Cockroaches: Are they harmful? What you should know- PestInsight Radio

Cockroaches are considered to be the filthiest insects, and have the title of the most feared household

insects.

People simply hate them. But my question is: Do you actually think they're harmful or you're just plain scared of them?

Whatever it is, you can't ignore that they're fearless creatures. Flying towards you like drones, making you jump and almost pick a race.

Consistency is in their nature. They're among the oldest insects, appearing to be much more like they do in fossils over 300 million years ago.

Do you know roaches can survive up to 10 days without their head? You'll get more amazing facts about this insect another time.

Now, let's consider cockroaches as pests.

They're are over 4500 species of cockroaches and only 40 are considered pests. The others are beneficial in their natural environment (Not the ones in your home though).

Roaches are most active at night and prefer to stay in cracks and crevices at day time.

They eat what you eat, what you have and what you can't imagine. Their diet ranges from Food, paper, clothing, dead insects, animal faeces, leaves,... They eat *anything* but have preference for sugar, fatty foods and decaying organic matter.

The fact that this insect damages more material than it consumes and emits a bad odour is enough to hold against it.

Cockroaches transmit and worsen many human diseases like Thyphoid fever, food poisoning, asthma, diarrhea, dysentry thereby threatening your health.

WHO describes roaches as "Unhygienic scavengers in human settlements"

They have a high proliferation and survival rate. You must have 'killed' a roach before and came back a few hours later to find out it's gone. Where did it go? Hell where it belongs? Nahh... It didn't die.

So next time, you squash it against a surface and make a whole mess. Unpleasant right?

You're right to not want them around, but there are tactics.

It may look like they're here to stay, but it doesn't have to be your home- You decide that.
